1. What is the most liberating thought you’ve ever had?
Everyone is too busy worrying about their own problems to notice yours. No one is looking. Go forth and conquer.
2. What did it liberate you from?
The feeling of being watched or scrutinized too closely.
3. What does it mean to live a good life?
Making and maintaining real connections with people and having lots of different experiences all saved up in your memory bank to look back on. I also think a good life means getting out of your comfort zone enough times to know what it feels like to be exhilarated by your own life. I love those out-of- body experiences of “am I actually doing this????”
4. What illusion have you suffered from the most?
Perfectionism and romanticism. I used to fall into the trap of romanticizing everything. The truth is nothing is as glamorous as you think it is. There are no singing birds or vintage typewriters when writing, just sweat and tears. Moving city will not make your problems disappear.
5. If you could go back and whisper in the ear of your 16-year- old self, what is the one thing you would tell them?
“Stop worrying so much and carry on making mistakes. You’ll learn from them.”
6. What does love feel like? (Real love, not hormonal love or I-like- the-idea- of-you-so- I’m-on- a-high love).
Real love feels safe.
7. What does your daily routine look like?
Coffee. Writing. Connection. Food. Bed.
8. What is your favorite thing to look at?
Moonlight shining onto water. Whether that’s a pond, pool, river or the sea.
9. Describe your perfect weekend.
Lazy mornings, croissants, coffee, the morning newspapers, reading by the fire, writing, strolling along the river, art, museums, good food and love.
10. What do you worry about the most?
Pointless tiny things that are not ever worth worrying about.
Because my mind likes playing tricks on me.
12. What makes you cry?
A sad film. I like to sit in dark cinemas and cry it all out.
13. What do you doodle on the sides of your papers?
One line ideas for wacky novels.
14. What is the most serendipitous thing that has ever happened to you?
It happens all the time, but receiving an email or phone call from the person you happen to be thinking about at that moment.
15. How did your biggest struggles become the pathways to your greatest success?
Learning to acknowledge my privilege and fortune in order to become a more self-aware person.
16. What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Look over at my boyfriend.
17. What do you wish you had more of in your life?
The ability to feel truly present.
18. What do you find to be the most genuinely beautiful thing in the world?
A laughing baby.
19. If you could be free of one thought or fear, what would it be?
Thoughts about money.
20. If you had the chance to tell every single person in the world just one thing, what would it be?
Avoid listening to much to your ego. You are not better than anyone – or worse than anyone.
