I have been reading the Chilean-American author Isabel Allende ever since I first discovered her as a sophomore in my University library. The book had been read many times before me, and I was drawn to the smells of the worn pages and yellow leathery cover. Her stories with such strong, female characters have always inspired me to find more beauty in the world and seek a sisterhood, and her words have transported me to nostalgic worlds I have never known. Here are 8 magical quotes by this legendary author to sprinkle your day with a little more wonder:

“The calendar is a human invention; time does not exist on the spiritual level.”
― from Kingdom of the Golden Dragon

“I seek truth and beauty in the transparency of an autumn leaf, in the perfect form of a seashell on the beach, in the curve of a woman’s back, in the texture of an ancient tree trunk, but also in the elusive forms of reality.”
― from Portrait in Sepia

“For women, the best aphrodisiacs are words. The G-spot is in the ears. He who looks for it below there is wasting his time.”
― from Of Love and Shadows

“Erotica is using a feather; pornograpy is using the whole chicken.”
― Isabel Allende

“Silence before being born, silence after death: life is nothing but noise between two unfathomable silences.”
― from Paula

“ Courage is a virtue appreciated in a male but considered a defect in our gender. Bold women are a threat to a world that is badly out of balance, in favor of men.”
― from Inés of My Soul

“I can promise you that women working together – linked, informed and educated – can bring peace and prosperity to this forsaken planet.”
― Isabel Allende

“There is no death, daughter. People die only when we forget them,’ my mother explained shortly before she left me. ‘If you can remember me, I will be with you always.”
― from Eva Luna
