Anyone who has studied the art of arguing would be familiar with the phrase “poisoning the well.” It’s a form of ad hominem fallacy – where the opponent attacks the character of a person so as to shift attention away from the point being made with a subsequent defense of the individual. “Poisoning the well” is an extension of that, dismissing or discrediting someone else’s ideas based on their (ultimately unrelated) personality traits.
I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t think Russell Brand was an unlikely ambassador of cosmic consciousness, but maybe that’s the real beauty of it all. As a philosophy/psychology/spirit junkie who writes for a living, I have come across few other people who are as succinct, understandable and stunningly profound as the following collection of sound bites.
